What Your Sewing Space Says About You

I was thinking the other day about how much our fabric choices really say about us.

If someone walked into your sewing space, what would they notice first?

Would they see carefully folded stacks of fabric? Bright colors and patterns? Or maybe a collection of scraps you just can’t part with?

Most of us can recognize ourselves pretty quickly.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized—it’s not just about the fabric.

It’s about everything that comes with it.

The Part We Don’t Talk About

All the rulers.

All the tools.

All the little things we use every day… and somehow still can’t find when we need them.

I’ve had more of those moments than I care to admit—standing there, knowing I have the right ruler somewhere, but not knowing where.

And those little moments? They add up.

They slow you down.

They interrupt your focus.

They take a bit of the joy out of quilting.

A Small Shift That Changed Things

Lately, as I’ve been getting back into sewing after my move, I’ve been paying more attention to what actually makes the process easier.

Not faster. Not more perfect. Just… easier.

And for me, it came down to something simple:

Being able to see what I have.

No digging.

No searching.

No frustration.

Just quilting.

Something I’ve Been Using

This little setup has been working really well for me lately.

It’s nothing complicated—but it keeps the rulers I use most right where I can reach them. And that alone has made my time at the sewing table feel smoother and more enjoyable.

A Thought to Leave You With

Your fabric shows your creativity.

But your space?

That shows how easy you’re making things on yourself.

So maybe the question isn’t just:

What kind of quilter are you?

But also:

Is your space helping you enjoy it?

Warmly,

Rita
